He was rescued by Saddles Rescue Ranch & Sanctuary in South Carolina a few years ago. In 2023, when the rescue was arranging with their vet to geld him, it was determined from xrays that his large swollen hocks were due to OCD (osteochondritis dissecans), not an injury as originally suspected. OCD is a developmental orthopedic disease that usually occurs in young horses as a result of things like genetics, nutrition, trauma, and rapid growth. He had fragments of loose cartilage/bone floating around causing damage in his joints and they needed to be removed surgically. The rescue did not have the resources needed for his surgery and recovery so they reached out to us for help, knowing that our specialized team of vets and volunteers would be his best option for a better future. We knew that our volunteers and supporters would welcome him with open arms! Once he settled in, we took a new set of X-rays so we could consult with our surgical team. Baby Mac had successful surgery 10/16/2024 and was also gelded. He then needed a few months of healing after his arthroscopic surgery.
Baby Mac is now healed and under training! We are so excited to see where he goes in life! He will need a very experienced person, preferably with experience with young draft breeds and someone committed to continuing his training!
