Our Permanent Residents

CDHR’s permanent resident horses typically cannot be adopted due to age, illness, or injury. We do not come to that decision lightly, but we feel it is in the horses' best interests. They will live out their natural lives at Autumn Ridge. Because these horses are often with us for many years, they become dear to our hearts. CDHR also retains a very small number of Ambassador horses. These horses are often sent to CDHR with a specific role to play in promoting draft horses and the rescue by meeting visitors, representing us in parades, teaching skills to our volunteers, and appearing at special rescue events.

Our permanent resident horses are all looking for loving Horse Angels to sponsor them.

Pete and Sam

Pete (Prickly Pete) came to us with his partner, Sam (Slippery Sam), in July of 2022 when their owner unexpectedly passed away. We immediately opened our gates and took in the pair. Pete and Sam are younger and have brought so much zest and shenanigans to the farm. It brings us so much joy to have them as part of the herd, and we are honored to have been chosen as their permanent home.

Spencer

Spencer has an extraordinary story and a very special role at CDHR. His job is to be the best ambassador for CDHR, draft breeds, and a spokes-horse for the work we do. Spencer has a wonderful temperament and has been a very willing partner in the educational programs at the rescue. Spencer enjoys participating and seeing all the wonderful people who come to visit the farm. You can read about his story here.
