Hello, My Name is Jewell. (Adopted March 2022)

Jewell is my name and that’s exactly what I am, a crown jewel. My former owner passed away and the folks at CDHR took me in. In my former life I was used for team driving and light farm work. Maybe it’s because of my size, but I don’t spook easily. I am a calm and confident lady. I was never ridden under saddle, but I’m up for anything, so I’ve been working with our trainer under saddle. Look at that, you really can teach an older horse new tricks. I’ll need some more saddle time, but I’m very comfortable and confident in any situation. I can do anything! How wonderful for you!

Fun Fact: Also known as the Belgian Heavy Horse, Brabançon or Brabant, the Belgian Draft is not only one of the strongest draft breeds, but this breed has also held the world record for the tallest & the largest horses in the world.

This breed comes from the Brabant region of what is now Belgium where it is called the Cheval de trait belge, Belgisch Trekpaard, Brabants Trekpaard or Brabander. Said to be the most direct descendants of the “Great Horse” of medieval times, the Belgian draft horse was the animal that carried knights onto the battlefield. Most draft breeds today carry Belgian lineage in their bloodlines.
