In Memory of Marshmellow
(2010-2022)
(November 8, 2022)
"We are heartbroken to share with all of you that our precious mailman, Marshmellow, at 31 years, passed away Saturday morning.
He was loved by so many in his 12 years with us (rescued in 2010); it is a hard loss.
We are so thankful that Marshmellow passed gently, quietly, and comfortably just like he lived his last few years. He was snuggled up in his heavily bedded stall, held, kissed, and hugged, surrounded by love from his friends as he crossed over.
If Marshmellow could have lived just with his precious heart, he would have lived for millions of years, but his body was tired and ready to rest.
Our deepest thanks to Dr. Matt Kornatowski from Twin Pines Equine Veterinary Services for helping Marshmellow cross over while our own Dr. Stacey Golub is recovering from surgery. We are blessed to have you, Dr. Matt.
Our thanks also to all our supporters and followers for loving Marshmellow as much as we all did. Your visits to him, your letters and cards to him, the care packages you sent him, and your love for him over the years all meant the world to him and all of us.
Rest in Peace, sweet Marshmellow. May you run free with all the other horses that have crossed over the rainbow bridge.
You will be forever loved and forever missed.
Marshmellow’s Tribute Wall

Remembering Marshmellow
“When I started volunteering at CDHR in 2020, I knew not one thing about horses. It was Marshmellow who quickly became the one to teach me so much. The size of the animals terrified me a bit at first, but not him. Always so gentle in his nature. As I moved into the night check slot, I cherished nights spent feeding him. He was always waiting for his meal, even doing a little dance for it sometimes. We will miss being greeted by this gentle soul but will always be grateful for our time spent with Marsh and everything we learned from him."

“I was fortunate to meet Marshmellow at your recent Octoberfest. I was one of Smokey Chestnut Farm Rescue volunteers in Norton, MA, who carpooled to your event. Marshmallow had a beautiful presence and a noble soul. He was a gorgeous and gracious host. My heart goes out to all of you who knew and loved him so well. God bless you, sweet Marshmallow.”

“Marshmellow we already miss you more than you could imagine. Thank you for making us all better people and teaching us how to slow down and enjoy each moment and day. You by far, rescued, loved, and saved as many humans as humans did you my friend. You truly were one in a million. How lucky we all are that CDHR found and rescued you. We will carry on this work, your legacy and love for many horses to come. Rest well my friend, and may you be eating all the long grass you want over that beautiful bridge.”
Stacey Randall, CDHR Barn Manager

“Marshy, my lunch buddy. It's been my pleasure giving you your lunch on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Finding you up at the fence as I arrived made me smile. There were days when you couldn't get there sometimes, but it was no problem bringing it to your shed. You are the most handsome and sweetest horse there ever could be. I love you and miss you already. I know you are happier now, pain-free and grazing on green grass, and running free with all of your herd. I'm sure they find you to be wise and comforting. I'm so lucky to have known and loved you!!”
Arlene Wrobel, CDHR Volunteer
“Dear Marshmellow has joined many beloved, including several special ponies lost here in Arizona that I knew this year! Marshmellow is free and running with Comanche, Sundance, and Tanto in the green pastures!! Thank you, CDR, for rescuing him so he could enjoy his life every day for the past twelve years. His presence will always remain in all your hearts! Hope to see you again in 2023 during my next visit:)”

“I was so lucky to be able to visit Marshmellow on several occasions; what a sweet and loving horse. Rest in peace, Beauty; play and be happy in the beautiful meadows beyond the Rainbow Bridge. You will always be remembered and loved till we see you once again.”

“I volunteer for Saturday PM. On one of my first shifts, Marshmellow was standing at his feeder, patiently waiting. I got to stand with him for a while, just quietly standing. All we did was stand while I pet his neck and nose. I whispered to him that he was the most magnificent horse I'd ever seen because, lets be honest, he was truly a beautiful sight. Being with marshy always felt so calm and reassuring. He will leave a giant hole at the farm and in my heart.”
