In Memory of Prince
August 21, 2023

With the deepest sorrow we share our beloved Prince passed away last evening with the final act of kindness Doc Stacey could give him.

Prince arrived at CDHR with chronic health issues, including neurologic impairment and sinking laminitis. It was always our concern he might not be with us for long. Through a concerted effort between Doc Stacey, Joe Santos, our miracle farrier, and our team of incredible volunteers, we were able to give him six months of love and medical care before his body had enough.

We hope you all find comfort in knowing he was laid to rest so peacefully, gently, quietly, and with a mouth and belly full of carrots. You're free from pain now, sweet boy. We were blessed that you came through our gates and changed our lives—even briefly.

Thank you to our volunteers for loving him fiercely, scratching all his favorite spots, tending to his wounds, adoring his big old tongue always hanging out, and stroking his soft, fuzzy, foal-like hair in his forelock. Our horses are so blessed to be loved and cared for by you all! You don't just improve the horses' lives; you make the world better.

Doc Stacey, we love you beyond words, and any one of us would do this last act of kindness for our horses if we could so you didn't have to bear the heavy weight of helping our horses cross over the Rainbow Bridge. This is the hardest part of rescue. Today, our hearts are heavy.
