The Capital Campaign to Build a Barn for Our Herd

A 10,080 sq.ft. Barn Has Been Donated to CDHR 

Please join us and be a part of something special. We invite you to get involved as we continue to expand our farm, Autumn Ridge, in East Hampton, Connecticut.

Our Future Barn!

 

In the spring of 2017, Connecticut Draft Horse Rescue launched a $245,000 Capital Campaign, to purchase an urgently needed permanent property to suit the needs of the CDHR horses. Through the generosity of our supporters, we now own our 20-acre farm, Autumn Ridge, complete with a hay barn, located in East Hampton, Connecticut.

However, this was only the start. To meet our current needs and to position CDHR for the future, we are now embarking upon the last phase of our capital campaign to raise $233,500 for the construction of a 10,080 sq.ft. indoor barn with space for multiple activities.

We are very excited to announce that we are embarking upon our capital campaign's last phase to raise $233,500 to bring the barn home to our farm.

The barn is the final project to be completed as part of Phase 4. Total construction time is estimated at 6 months, including infrastructure to interior finishes.

We Have a Challenge Grant!

The Kaman Family Foundation has pledged $100,000 when we reach the challenge amount of $100,000 between now and the end of February. We've already raised $30,000.   

We need this barn. And we need your help. Please join us on this journey to help us Raise the Barn at Autumn Ridge.

Currently, CDHR has taken in all of the horses it can safely accommodate. However, more horses are in need of care and are currently on a waiting list. With a versatile barn, we will be able to better accommodate the horses in our care.

Winter can be brutal to endure for humans and animals alike. The extreme cold, shortened daylight, and increase in significant weather events can lead to dangerous conditions and health concerns for our horses.

Plans include:

  • 42 stalls modified to a floor plan to suit our needs,

  • a medical stall,

  • vet/farrier treatment area,

  • feed room,

  • meeting/classroom area,

  • wash stalls,

  • and bathrooms.

  1. Make your check for a tax-deductible gift payable to CDHR, with Capital Campaign noted in the memo line, and mail it to PO Box 273, East Hampton, CT 06424.

  2. Make a gift of publicly-traded securities to CDHR’s brokerage account. We suggest you discuss the potential tax benefits with your financial advisor and tax accountant. Gifts of appreciated stocks or property are particularly advantageous from a tax point of view, especially if you own appreciated stocks on which you would have to pay long-term capital gains tax.
