In Memory of Spencer

”With broken hearts and tears in our eyes, we must share that our beloved Spencer has joined heaven's herd.
We are so grateful for the outpouring of love and support after his struggle with standing up this week. Despite being in his mid 20's, Spencer had never experienced issues with getting up until this past week. Earlier in the week, he began having some difficulty but did not require our assistance. Our veterinarian, Dr Stacey, started him on an anti-inflammatory and pain medication to help his arthritis. Due to the sudden onset, we also started precautionary treatment for a neurologic disease called EPM while we awaited test results for that condition.
We hoped these medications would help him but sadly, the night after our heroic efforts to get him back on his feet, he laid down to sleep and his hind legs could not lift his 1800 lb body. Our farm manager and vet saw this on our barn cameras and rushed to his side in the middle of the night. As it became clear that he couldn't stand on his own, we made the heart wrenching decision not to put him through another tractor lift. Under a quiet moonlit sky we helped him pass peacefully with all the love we could shower on him. We take comfort in knowing that his best friend Oliver was waiting for him at the bridge and our Spencer and Oliver are reunited for eternity, leaving behind a legendary mark on CDHR's history.”
